How it works

Learn German nouns

Read each noun with its article. Listen to it, then use the picture’s color to remember the article.

Complete a daily lesson to save its words in My words.

Learning card
Pencil illustration of a dog with a blue color cue
der Hund

dog

Notice the blue detail. It belongs with der.

Try this example. It does not change your progress.

Word, sound and picture

Read it. Hear it. See it.

Learn the noun and article together.

01 / THE WORD
der Hund

Learn the article too.

Learn each noun with der, die or das from the start.

02 / THE SOUND

Listen to the word.

Play the recording to hear the article and noun. Repeat them aloud if you like.

03 / THE PICTURE
derdiedas

Use the color cue.

Part of each picture has the article’s color. The rest is black and white.

Blue means der. Pink means die. Orange means das. The colors show grammar, not a person’s gender. The article is also written.

Quiz and review

Learn, then practise.

The quiz hides the picture’s color so you can choose the article yourself.

After your answer, the article and color appear. Missed words return for another try. Daily reviews bring words back over time.

Completing a daily lesson adds its words to My words. A perfect custom lesson adds its words too. Category quizzes do not add words.
